Dr. Ramesh Chandra Purohit was born on 1st September, 1956. He completed school education in 1973 from Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education. Results of RBSE placed him in state merit and he acquired National scholarship for pursuing higher studies. He obtained his B.E. (Agricultural Engineering) from College of Technology and Agricultural Engineering, University of Udaipur in 1978. He did his M.Tech. in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering from I.I.T. Kharagpur in 1980. He joined this institution in the year 1980 as Assistant Professor. In the year 1985, he was sent to USA for six month advanced training in the area of Irrigation Water Management Engineering. After acquiring this training, he developed Post Graduate Program in Irrigation Water Management Engineering in 1986 leading to PG degree in IWME. In the year 1986, University gave him promotion to the post of Associate Professor. In the year 1987, University deputed him under QIP to pursue his Ph.D. degree from I.I.T, Delhi and he acquired Ph.D. in 1990. After completion of Ph.D. University has given him responsibility of monitoring and evaluation of Watershed Works which were being executed in State of Rajasthan from World Bank funding. He successfully completed monitoring & evaluation work in 1996. In the year 1996, he was instrumental for development of Doctoral Program in the area of Soil & Water Conservation Engineering and Irrigation Water Management Engineering. In the year 2001, he was promoted as Professor, later in 2005 as Head, Department of Soil and Water Engineering. An alumni of CTAE is shouldered responsibility of leading the college as Dean of the faculty in June, 2010. He is Chief Coordinator of TUC under Techno-preneurial Project sponsored by DSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology, New Delhi.
Dr. Purohit has about 30 years of long experience of teaching, research and extension. He has published about 50 research papers in various national, international journals and proceedings. He has also guided 12 post graduate students and 4 doctoral students. He has completed 10 externally funded research projects and three research projects are on going. He is life member of ISAE, Indian Association of Soil and Water Conservationist, Institution of Engineers (India) and Indian Water Resources Society. Looking at his expertise, state government has co-opted him to development, Agricultural Development Plan under the leadership of Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, which has successfully completed. ICAR has also recognized him and co-opted him as member of PRT team for review of research made from 2001 to 2005. He positively contributed in its review and visited all the centres of AICRP on Salinity Management and suggested action plan for 2006 to 2010 for CSSRI, Karnal and its AICRP. He has conducted various conferences, seminars, summer schools etc. as Director/Coordinator. He has been member of selection board of many universities/ICAR institutes/ASRB/UPSC/RPSC etc. He is instrumental to organize Indian Engineering Congress 2007 as Organizing Secretary in a small town for the first time in the history of Institution of Engineers (India). Engineering student and Engineering Fraternity of State of Rajasthan were benefited by eminent speech of Dr. M.S. Ahluwalia, Vice Chairman, Planning Commission; Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and other international well known engineers and scientists.
His vision is to grow the institution not only at national level , but also at international level, so that placement of students is 100 percent.
